Shred-it M4 Corridor, based near Bristol, held Bristol’s first ever Community Shredding event on Saturday 24th April at Tesco Golden Hill near Horfield Common.
Local residents across Bristol were invited to spring clean safely by bagging up old bank statements, credit card bills and any other unwanted confidential papers and bringing them to the Tesco store’s car park where they were securely shredded and recycled by Shred-it.
Nearly 200 people attended the event - many commented on how long they had been hoarding their documents for and what a great opportunity it provided to dispose of them safely as well as being recycled. It was fantastic to see people and families arriving not only by car but also by bus, bicycle and on foot!
A total of just over 2.9 tonnes of paper was shredded on the day and subsequently recycled.
A big thank you to everyone who came along and for their very generous donations which raised just over £1,000 for Tesco’s charity of the year, CLIC Sargent – Caring for Children with Cancer.

Identity Theft Awareness
Identity theft is one of the UK’s fastest growing crimes. According to the UK’s fraud prevention service CIFAS, one in 10 people have already been a victim of identity fraud. To protect yourself against identity theft, make sure that all your confidential documents are regularly shredded or securely stored. Never dispose of personal materials in non-secure places where there is the chance that they could be stolen, such as rubbish or recycling bin.
